Description

Do an experiment in gentleness. Compromise is a disguised form of opposition—yet it carries the intention of seeking a way to negotiate. Pleasing, however, is something I have none of: it puts the other person first. If I draw a simple straight line to represent them, I imagine they are at opposite ends, while in between there are tens of thousands of possible variations along a spectrum. When, in a relationship, ten things are at stake and only one compromise is won—or when you surrender entirely in pursuit of a particular goal—which is better? In the complex patterns of human society, we cannot establish a truly valid judgment of “pleasing” versus “compromise” as a next, definitive standard. So I’m not trying to decide which one is correct. I’m trying to hold space for the experiment: to make us notice what we are giving away, and what we are still able to keep. *All natural mineral materials are sourced from fair trade mines that reject child labor and support women's employment
